And We Are Off!

We left Colorado Springs this morning at 9:00, had a 1 hour bus trip to the Denver airport, then flew 3 plus hours into Newark, NJ airport. From here we take an 8:30 pm flight to Madrid, Spain of about seven hours.

Bus trip from Colorado Springs to Denver airport

Bus is loaded!

At the airport checking in

Boarded and ready to go!
And then.......
we missed our flight to the Canary Islands!  After much sitting and waiting they started issuing boarding passes and then quit.  It was time to get on the next flight so 5 players, Coach Showalter, Caroline (USA media), Sam (USA)  and Diane (team doctor) had boarding passes and went aboard without their bags which were not tagged yet.  We said good-bye to the nine of them while we waited and finally were told we wouldn't get a flight until the next day.

Waiting to see if we can get on another flight to Canary Islands

Waiting.....

And waiting....

Waiting/sleeping

The news - the rest of us will stay overnight in Madrid!

So...... seven players, BJ (USA Basketball) and his wife Pauline, Debi (team trainer),Coach Gray and his granddaughter, Madison, Coach Jones and myself checked in all the big bags (27 of them!) and got boarding passes for the next day.  We were bused to a hotel for the night.
The hotel in Madrid

We walked several blocks to an Irish Pub for supper.  We enjoyed good food while sitting outside.
Enjoying the meal

Burgers, fries, chicken wings were a hit with the boys.

Flexibility if one of the key words and we certainly got to practice that today!

Report from Canary Islands:  checked into the hotel which we heard was very nice, went to a reception, walked for ice cream later and enjoyed the evening even without their bags.
